LEWIS HAMILTON's COLUMN
A
SHORT COMPARATIVE SUMMARY ON LEWIS HAMILTON COLUMN
PICKING UP THE BATON
FOR AYRTON SENNA
Upon reading Hamilton’s column on
this, what I realized was that Hamilton is one who writes about subjects that
are of interest to his heart. A story like “PICKING UP THE BATON FOR SENNA” is
one that discloses the original intent of Hamilton regarding his career. Truth
be told, Lewis is a man of accomplishment and I can boldly say that the BBC
Columnist has lived up to his potential. One profound statement made by Lewis
was: “I never set out to 'beat' Ayrton.
And, as I say, I won't regard it as that anyway. I set out to do the same thing
as him. To be on a similar level in terms of results is a bonus and nothing
else”. This reveals the truth that it only remains a fact that; If one sets
the mind and heart towards a particular goal, nothing can hinder and prevail.
In conclusion, let the record be
set straight that Hamilton is completely focused and one amazing thing is that;
In spite of the higher heights he has achieved, Hamilton is still remains
humanly by being himself and also getting involved in other activities like
singing, et cetera.
GOING BLOND AND BEING
AT EASE WITH MYSELF
Having read this column, it’s so apparent
that Lewis is one who has a sense for fashion – a fashionista. He went blond
with his hair which got millions talking about it. He never cared anyway because
he was expecting such actions from the fans. According to him, he tried living
on the expectation of many. But as it stands now, Hamilton has moved away from
such hypocritical act. In the story, the taste for travelling was unveiled by
Hamilton. Lewis is one who loves to travel a lot. He makes it clear that in
life one needs a balance in everything. “Always,
though, I am trying to balance to the best of my abilities my training, health,
and mental and physical condition”.
All in all, Hamilton’s taste for
fashion has caused him to do crazy things such as tattoos and the likes. Irrespective
of Hamilton’s success in sports – racing, he is one that proves the reality
that man isn’t perfect by all standards.
Comparing some of the columns
written by Lewis Hamilton, it is evident that he is well vested in feature
writing. His expressions makes one connect to what he is stipulating and also
find some level of belonging and identity. As for the command on the Language,
it best to write that he is obviously good.
Hamilton’s columns are of personal
connection and human interest angles. The style of write up can match up with
that of a journalistic setting. Kudos to LEWIS HAMILTON and congrats on all
your accomplishments so far. The world is amazed at you, we are proud of you
and KEEP THE FOCUS….GOOD COLUMNS and DIRECT EXPEREINCES.

SOLUTIONS TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
SOLUTIONS
TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
One
of the greatest problems that the world is facing today is that of
environmental pollution, increasing with every passing year and causing grave
and irreparable damage to the earth. Environmental pollution consists of five
basic types of pollution, namely; air, water, soil, noise and light. Pollution
is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause
adverse change. Pollutants, the components of pollution, can be either foreign
substances, energies or naturally occurring contaminants.
Having
said this, the US $ 64, 000.00 question is; what mechanisms can serve as a
panacea or solution to our current state of environment pollution? Let’s
consider this from the various forms or angles of environmental pollution.
Now,
air pollution is one of the forms of environmental pollution. What at all can
serve as solutions to air pollution?
In
the first place, air pollution refers to the contamination of air. A physical,
biological or chemical alteration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as
pollution. It occurs when any harmful gases, dust, smoke enters into the
atmosphere and makes it difficult for plants, animals and humans to survive as
the air becomes dirty.
One
mechanism that can serve as a solution to air pollution is the need to conserve
energy. HOW? When going out, lights and fans must be switched off. The reason
is because large amount of fossil fuels are burnt to produce electricity and we
can save the environment from degradation by reducing the amount of fossil
fuels to be burned.
Also,
an emphasis on clean energy resources: clean energy technologies like solar,
wind and geothermal can serve as another mechanism of solution to air
pollution. Government of various countries must give a special attention to
providing grants to consumers who are interested in installing solar panels for
homes and business. This will go a long way to curb air pollution.
The
use of energy efficient devices is also another solution factor. CFL lights consume
less electricity as against their counterparts. They live longer, consume less
electricity, lower electricity bills and also help you to reduce pollution by
consuming less energy. We can also look at the use of public mode of
transportation. People must be encouraged to use more and more public modes of
transportation to reduce pollution. Another thing to reckon with is the use of
carpooling. If you and your colleagues come from the same locality and have
same timings you can explore this option to save energy and money.
In
view of this, these are some of the practical solutions we can deploy to solve
the astronomical issue we have with air pollution.
Let’s
turn our attention to another form of solutions that can be engaged to solve
the issue of soil pollution. Soil pollution has many sources, from agriculture
to industry to human activity. Polluted soils affect harm life and, in turn,
wildlife. Solutions, therefore, involve not just removing a source of pollution
but also cleaning up and restoring the polluted area.
Also, a reduction on our negative impact on the environment can be of help. Despite educational efforts, the average citizen generates more than four pounds of trash daily, more than seventy percent of which ends up in landfills, where toxins leach into the soil. Recycle whenever possible to help ease soil pollution. Use cloth bags instead of paper or plastic at the grocery store, and substitute polycarbonate bottles for plastic water bottles.

Recycle whenever possible to help ease soil pollution. Use cloth bags instead of paper or plastic at the grocery store, and substitute polycarbonate bottles for plastic water bottles.
Contribute
less waste to help prevent soil pollution. Purchase glass and other reusable
containers instead of throwing away plastic or paper regularly. Recycle paper
and plastic through your local waste management company to reduce the amount of
waste that is sent to a landfill. The National Science Digital Library, NSDL,
reports that reusing and recycling products will help conserve natural
resources and save more land from contamination. Do not burn trash,
particularly plastics or tires, because the residue in the smoke will settle
and pollute the soil. Do not deposit any harmful substances down the drain, if
it’s in the water, it will get into the soil.
In
addition, the enforcement and obedience of anti-litter bylaws can contribute to
the reduction and solution to soil or land pollution. On the other hand, avoid
all chemical use, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides on gardens and lawns.
Finally,
we shall consider the solutions to water pollution. Dealing with water
pollution is something that everyone (including governments and local councils)
needs to get involved with. Here are a few things we can do to help.
In
the first place to solve water pollution, we should never throw rubbish away
anyhow. This includes places like the beach, riverside and water bodies. Always
look for the correct waste bin. Use water wisely. Do not keep the tap running
when not in use. Also, you can reduce the amount of water you use in washing
and bathing. If we do this, we can significantly prevent water shortages and
reduce the amount of dirty water that needs treatment. Besides the above, if
one lives close to a water body, try to plant lots of trees and flowers around
your home, so that when it rains, chemicals from your home does not easily
drain into the water.
To
add up, do not throw chemicals, oils, paints and medicines down the sink drain,
or the toilet. Not only but also, the chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides use
for farms and gardens must be watched and overuse. This will reduce runoffs of
the chemicals into nearby water sources. Start looking at options of composting
and using organic manure instead.
In
conclusion, the above submissions on the solutions to the various kinds of
environmental pollutions are plausible and needs to be engaged by practicing
the above provisions.

FACTORS AMOUNTING TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION IN GHANA.
Environmental
pollution is one of the major problems most countries in the world are
confronted with. The havoc it wrecks on human health seemed to be unbearable.
Environmental pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural
environment and making it harmful to support the survival of living organisms.
This perilous phenomenon can be attributed to several factors which includes: industrialization,
population growth, and globalization.
A society’s advancement largely depends on how well it is industrialized. An industrialized society creates the avenue for employment and also boosts the gross domestic product of its economy. However, the blessing that is associated with industrialization also comes along with a corresponding dangers that threatens human health .Industrial activities such as petroleum –based energy generation, set in motion the widespread usage of fossil fuel (oil, gas, coal). The emission of poisonous substances into the atmosphere pollutes the environment and brings human life under threat.
Besides, population growth is
another major factor of environmental pollution. The high spiralling of
population growth as a result of lack of family planning measures and high
fertility rate inflates the demand for goods and services. Actors in the
agricultural sector in their bid to feed the growing population, clear lands
and indiscriminately cut down trees along river banks. This activity exposes
the land and water bodies to the direct heat of the sun leading to
environmental degradation. Besides, the indiscriminate disposal of liquid and
solid waste substances especially into water bodies, contributes immensely to
environmental pollution.
Directly linked to the above, is globalization.
Globalization is the process of interaction and integration among people,
companies, and governments of different nations which is facilitated by
information technology. Globalization has become an effective facilitator of environmental
degradation .This stems from the fact that most developing countries have
flexible environmental laws. The flexibility of environmental laws coupled with
the availability of cheap labour induce developed countries to move their facilities
to such pollution havens rather than to work in more regulated markets.
In a nut shell, the quality of
human health, depends on the quality of the environment in which we live. It
therefor necessary to protect it from pollution.

RECYCLING; THE WAY FORWARD?
Recycling
in recent times has become the sole mode of making good use of our “waste materials”. The process involves collecting and processing materials that
would otherwise be thrown as trash and turning them into new products.
Recycling
is a very important process because it helps reduce the amount of waste sent to
landfills and incinerators.
With
the abundance of natural resources on the shores and forests of the country, it
is very necessary that recycling is adopted to conserve resources such as
water, minerals and timber.
“Waste is Wealth” as suggested by recycling and
manufacturing industries in Ghana. An example of such industries is JEKORA
VENTURES.
It is a waste collecting and recycling industry
made up of young entrepreneurs from nine African countries. This medium has
provided employment avenues for all their workers. Waste is wealth indeed!
THE
FUTURE OF WASTE COLLECTION
The
world is moving away from just waste bins that will store waste materials into
a well improved device. This is an innovation from mainland, china.
It is an all new solar-powered intelligent
classify and compression trash bin which is made of stainless steel, has a
solar panel and its communication way is GSM.
It
has a solar energy supply that can give light at night. The stress of sorting
out waste materials is taken by the bin. There is also an inbuilt UV
disinfectant that disinfects the trash regularly in order to reduce bacteria
and spread of disease. When the trash can is filled up, it will access the
clean management platform via computer and smartphone and send a message to the
worker. This device gives you the opportunity to browse the internet via WIFI.
Waste
collection and processing will be improved as a result of the invention of the
solar- powered trash bin.
With
regards to the number benefits that can be generated from recycling waste
materials, it is important that we treat our waste materials as wealth and not ordinary
waste.

THE DANGERS OF POLLUTION IN OUR ENVIRONMENT.
There
are several effects of environmental pollution on environment degradation, on
human health, on animals, on global warming, depletion of the ozone layer and
some leading to the infertility
of lands.
.
The increase in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere leads to smog which can
restrict sunlight from reaching the earth and this prevents plants in the
process of photosynthesis. Gases like Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide can
cause acid rain. Also, water pollution in terms of Oil spillage may lead to
death of several wildlife species.
The effects of environmental pollution on
humans are mainly physical. Well! Let me tell you a story. My friend and I closed
from school one day and decided to take our normal short-cut routine back home.
As we were going, we got to a place where a group of people were burning this
car tyre. We ceased our breaths with the help of our handkerchiefs and passed
by. Then after a week, my friend hadn’t reported to school so I decided to pass
by her house and find out why. Lo and behold, I got there and I had the shock
of my life when I was told that my friend was seriously sick and had been
diagnosed of asthma and till today she has being battling with her life.
This
is as a result of the air that was polluted by the people who were burning the
tyre and we passed through. Asthma is not the only disease caused by air
pollution. Chest pains, throat inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, lung
cancer and other respiratory diseases are all caused by air pollution. We can
also attract these diseases when we eat recollections of pollutants used in the
production of processed foods, or pesticides from the crops. We may also be
posed with skin related problems including skin irritations and rashes if water
is contaminated and we drink it.
This normally occurs in rural areas where
streams and rivers serve as their source of drinking water. Similarly, Noise
pollution leads to hearing loss, stress and sleep disturbance and we all know
that when one doesn’t sleep well, he or she begins to lose weight gradually.
Effects
on Animals: Environmental pollution mainly affects animals by causing harm to
their living environment, making it toxic for them to live in. Acid rains can
change the composition of rivers and seas, making them toxic for fishes to live
in. Fishermen who use Nitrogen and phosphates in rivers and seas in other to
catch more fishes will cause overgrowth of toxic algae, preventing other forms
of life to follow their normal course. Eventually, soil pollution will cause the
destruction of microorganisms, which can have the dramatic effect of killing
the first layers of the main food chain.
Effects
on Global Warning: the emission of greenhouse gases
particularly CO2 is leading to global warming. Every new day, new industries
are being set up, new vehicles come on roads and trees are cut to make way for
new homes. All of them, directly or indirectly may lead to increase in CO2 in
the environment. The increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which
increases the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal
areas.
We
should therefore beware of these dangers and live civil lives for the
betterment of our community..

POLLUTION AS A NATIONAL CANKER; THE VARIOUS FORMS
Pollution
is the release of harmful substances into the environment and atmosphere at
large. The substances that are being released into the environment include
smoke, sulphur dioxide gas, carbon monoxide gas, untreated sewage, polythene
bags, plastic bottles and other chemicals. Land, water and air are all embedded
in the environment and as such, can also be polluted.
Air
pollution as the name suggests is the release of gases, dust, smoke, fumes or
odour in amounts which could be harmful to the health or comfort of humans and
animals as well as plants and materials. The air that is polluted is considered
impure hence it has adverse effects on living things.
This is because; humans,
animals and plants that are the living organisms depend on the clean air, in
other words oxygen for survival.
As
humans, there are certain activities we perform that ends up harming the land
we live on and the soil. The land can be polluted either by household garbage
or industrial waste. The rate at which lands are been used in Ghana for our
selfish gains or interest leads to its pollution one way or the other.
When
the land which is a habitat to both living and non-living things is polluted
then, the water that passes through the land can as well be polluted. Water
pollution which is another type of pollution is simply when water is
contaminated as a result of certain human activities. Rivers, streams, lakes,
ground water and sea becomes impure due to its contact with both solid and
liquid waste.
One
may argue that, noise cannot be seen or smelt therefore isn’t harmful. Sounds
coming from planes, industries or other sources succeed in causing harm to the
environment thereby can be listed as a type of pollution. care must taken in order not to expose ourselves to such forms of pollution.
